Cannes, France

2019 Western Mediterranean and Transatlantic Cruises on MSC
Day 2 MSC Seaview - Cannes, France -- October 31, 2019

Video of this day, please click here.

We will be visiting our first port on this trip--Cannes, France on this day. We have heard so much about this resort town on the French Riviera, but this would be our first time here. We got up early to have breakfast at 7:00 this morning, in the main dining room that was opened--Golden Sand.

Enjoyed a big breakfast in the main dining room.

We had to tender to port today. With our Gold status, we did not have to get tender tickets but our relatives from Taiwan had to get in line for their tickets. They got number 5 so we waited until their number was called before heading out to the gangway.

On a cloudy, misty morning.

We got to the pier about the same time.

Tourist information and maps were available at the pier.

From the pier, we just walked up the quiet streets to get to the Musee de la Castre.

It was an uphill climb on these quite streets.

Evaluating the stairs to decide if we should climb. ET made it all the way up step by step!

Charming neighborhood!

Almost there!

Such beautiful structures!

Arrived at the museum.
They told us that there were only a few of the rooms opened if we decided to go inside. For a couple of dollars we figured that it was still worth it.

We found the museum quite interesting, with displays of artifacts from different parts of the world.

This is a small museum but a good place to spend an hour or so.

After visiting the displays inside, we went to the courtyard in the back of the building and found this tower right in the middle. To climb or not to climb...

Medieval structures around the tower.

Climb!

Rewarded with a wonderful view of the city.

Our cruise ship anchored off the bay.

A lovely place where we spent a couple of hours.

Then we walked down to the nearby Church of Our Lady of Esperance.

Entrance to the church.

Inside

Then we walked down to town following the hilly streets.

Back down to town.

Boardwalk

Mairie de Cannes near the waterfront.

We did not go inside the Casino.

Then it was the must-see site of Palais des Festivals of Cannes.
Everybody had to post on the red carpet.

Across the street of the Palais des Festivals of Cannes stood the Church of Our Lady of Good Voyage (Église Notre Dame de Bon Voyage).

A Gothic-aspired building.

Walking down the very busy Rue Felix Faure toward the Marche Forville.

Unfortunately, we were a little too late. The place was actually closing down for the day.

Disappointed, we decided to head back to the ship instead of getting on the HOHO bus seeing that dark clouds were gathering.

Resting before getting in line for the tender.

As soon as we were back at the pier, pouring rain started and it seemed like everybody had the same idea--getting back on the ship. Long lines of passengers were waiting but for some reason, they were very slow getting people on the tender as the line got longer and longer. Being wet and tired, some people got anxious and line cutting, argument, and hot temper almost turned into fist fight.

Enjoyed a late lunch at the buffet back on the dry, warm ship.

First Formal Night

With the late lunch that we had, most of us just enjoyed this prawn dish as a main at dinner.

We stopped by the Captain's Party for a few minutes but left as it got a little boring.

The atrium on this ship, very impressive!
