Ramen Museum and Miuramisakiko Yokohama World Porters

July 16, 2015 -- Ramen Museum, Shin Yokohama

When we came out of the Shin Yokohama JR Station, it was pouring rain but with ChC guide, we braved the rain and found the Ramen Museum about three blocks away. 

As we were walking I noticed this outside a cafe/restaurant. Got to snap a picture!

Shin Yokohama Ramen Museum, pay the admission right at the entrance. Adults 310 Y, Children and Seniors (60+) 100 Y. We were not aware of the senior discount and paid the full price. Oh well...

First thing first, we were hungry and needed to eat, so we headed downstairs to the basement where they intentionally showcase a street-scape replication from the 1958 era of Japan. It was this year that the world's first instant ramen was invented.

There! It looks like the night markets in Hong Kong during that era also.
There are nine ramen shops serving a different variety of ramen in each shop.






We decided on station #6--Komurasaki, where they served Tonkotsu (pork bone) based ramn from Kumamoto, Kyushu. First we got in line, and then purchased our tickets from this machine.

The real deal. It was delicious! With roasted crumbled garlic pieces scattered on top which made the soup even more tasty.

I also ordered an egg on the side. One satisfying lunch.

As we came out of the shop, we saw ChC inside station #4 (Muku Zweite), ready for his 2nd bowl of ramen after station #1 (RyupShanhai Honten).

After our ramen lunch, we went back up to the first floor to visit the museum. Unfortunately, not everything was bi-lingual, so I had problems understanding the limited display there. There is also a Museum shop, the IRIS slot-car race track, a cafe/snack shop, and a sweet shop. When it got a little too crowded we left the place and went back to the train station, took the JR train and Minato Mirai train back to the hotel. We were all very tired and staying inside and rest sounded like the best idea.


Miuramisakiko Yokohama World Porters

We wanted to make sure that we get to have dinner at the sushi restaurant tonight so we gathered at 6:30 and walked across the bridge to World Porters again. Ready for a sushi dinner at the Miuramisakiko Yokohama World Porters. I have read that they get their seafood fresh directly from the port on a daily basis. Their prices were reasonable and both the wait staff and chefs were very friendly and accommodating. It made for a pleasant dining experience. Like all other conveyer belt sushi restaurants, the plates are color coded according to the prices. You pick what you want from the conveyer belt and at the end they count up your plates. Very easy. If you see something on the menu but it's not on the belt, you can order it from the chefs or the wait staff. Green tea powder, hot water, wasabi, ginger, chopsticks, etc. are all in front of you, just help yourself with whatever.

One of our favorites--torch-flamed salmon. The heat melted the fatty part of the salmon and made it taste creamy. Yummy!





Plates stacking up. What a wonderful dinner we had! I think we spent 5443 yen among the three of us. Not bad at all!
After dinner we walked around the mall a bit before getting back to the hotel.

There was a towel stand with a supply of dry towels for people to wipe their sweats as they enter the mall. Soiled towels were dropped inside the bin there. What a thoughtful idea!
