Family Time

Precious Time with Family
August 27, 2016

Our week in Taipei gone by quicker than a wink, MOR completed his attendance at the CCCOWE conference. It was time for us to spend some time with family members in the southern parts of Taiwan. It's always nice to see our constantly expanding family in this part of the world which we only get to visit every so often.

We would be taking the high-speed train #619 from Taipei to Yunlin this morning. We learned something new this time around, that is always check to see if there is any discount tickets available. Sometimes, they have early bird specials if you purchased your tickets so many days ahead. These only apply to certain trains but it doesn't hurt to ask. We have purchased our tickets a few days ahead but the time and train we wanted did not have special discounts. This time we got assigned seats though so all was well.

Waiting area

Our seats were at the first row of the train, right next to the luggage area in that car.

After the comfortable and speedy ride, we arrived Yunlin station promptly. Apparently this is a new station and not all trains stop here.

Another look at the platform.

MOR's sister, BIL and their sons came to pick us up at the station with two cars so we had no problem getting everybody and our luggage in. They then took us to a duck specialty restaurant which is owned by their soon-to-be in-laws for lunch. One thing I neglect was getting the name of this restaurant.

Duck meat Taiwanese style...

...and many other delicacies.

sticky rice with blood

yap, noodle!

Soup with bamboo shoots. Everything was delicious!

Sugar Factory-Huwei
After resting, chatting, and snacking all afternoon at sister's house we met up with other members of the family who came from different towns for a seafood dinner. But, before the big dinner, they decided that it would be a good idea to take us to the old sugar factory for some ice-cream. The sugar factory in Huwei is supposedly famous for their ice cream among locals. As this was a Saturday, it was quite crowded.

Ice cream with red beans, super yummy!

Many visitors

For dinner, we have made reservations at our favorite seafood restaurant in the Township of Beigang--Ching Song Seafood Restaurant. On our way to the restaurant, we stopped at a beautiful bridge called "Daughters Bridge" near the river that separates Yunlin and Chiayi counties for a walk. This new bridge was to replace the old bridge that was used by the trains, I believe. There is a beautiful walkway along the river which makes it a great spot for evening strolls among locals.

Ching Song Seafood No. 369, Taiping Road, Beigang Township, Yunlin County, Taiwan 651
This is our favorite seafood restaurant in southern Taiwan. We have been here a few times and enjoyed each and every meal we had. The last one, which was during Chinese New Year, was not the best because they only offered set meals but it was still good. This time, we were able to order from the menu and we ended up with another amazing dinner.

Our familiar restaurant.

A huge table big enough for all of us.

This fried rice with fish roe was ridiculously delicious!

What a meal to end the day with! I am already looking forward to go back there, hopefully soon!
