Talkeetna to Anchorage

We got up early the next morning to catch the shuttle to the town of Talkeetna. Most of the tours for this area begin here. We were able to get on the first bus and it was full. It was very quiet when we got into town. We planned on having breakfast at the Roadhouse which was featured on Man vs. Food. It is famous for their big breakfast.

Again, it is family style seating. This is also a little hotel with rooms both upstairs and downstairs.

Their pancakes practically hang over the plate and this is just a half breakfast. This is their yummy blueberry pancake.

Another half-breakfast order

After breakfast we walked down to the river. "Denali" displayed beautifully in full view.

There were people camping out at the river bank.

A jet boat tour came by.

A camper washing dishes at the river.

Walk back to town

it was still very quiet

There was a huge group of Japanese tourists came by for about half an hour in town.

Before heading back to the Princess Lodge, we went back to the Roadhouse and ordered some pasties and clam chowder to go. We then took these back to the lodge and enjoyed our delicious lunch with the view of "Denali" on the deck of the lodge.

Waiting for the coach to take us to Anchorage.

From McKinley to Anchorage was a 3 1/2 hour drive. Here the buses stopped and let everyone out for a bathroom break. You can tell that this is a big ice-cream place. We just had to get some and they were wonderful! There was a long line but it moved very quickly.

Arrived at the Hotel Captain Cook in Anchorage, a very good hotel.

Looking out from our room.

We walked three blocks from the hotel to the waterfront.

Then we walked back to a little place across from the hotel called "Teriyaki Box" for dinner.
Food was OK but a little pricey. I think this is the halibut plate.

Teriyaki beef and chicken plate.

Noodle soup ($10)

Outside the Teriyaki Box. Our hotel is in the background.

Then it started to rain so we had to rush back to the hotel.
