Milan-Verona-Venice

cont. 2010 Trip to Europe

After a good nights rest, we were ready to explore the city.
This is the hotel where we stayed for the night.

Got  to figure out where we are going.

Looking across from the hotel.

Front of the hotel

We decided that we will just walk to the Duomo.

The sign of the restaurant where we had dinner the previous night.

The entrance to the restaurant.

It happened to be a day of demonstration. Everything just appeared right in front of us.

The crowds in front of the Duomo.

Exceptional!

Do NOT take pictures with the pigeons if the vendors put the bird in your hand. It will cost 20 euros, well, at least that was what they wanted me to pay. I refused, turned around, and walked away. I was planning to give him a few dollars but trying to get 20 euros out of me for a photo just blew me off. For one thing, those were not even HIS pigeons!

The shopping center (Grand Galleria) right next to Duomo.

No, we did not eat here. Just checking out their menu.

Lunch was at a restaurant nearby called Dogana.

We ordered way too much food!

After lunch we walked back to pick up the van and drove to Verona, which is famous for the Romeo and Juliet story. This is a very popular destination with tourists from all over the world.

Yep, this is the balcony! Visitors can pay an entrance fee to go up there.

The statue of Juliet in the courtyard.

Tourists left their love notes on the wall.

Love locks on the lamp post in Verona.

Arrived in Venice. We came here for dinner and ended up with an amazing seafood meal. A little pricey but truly enjoyable. I believe it cost each of us around $100USD for this unforgetable meal that was recommended by a friend of CeC, who lives in Venice. She also joined us for dinner that evening.

This is the name of the restaurant, on the Mestre side of Venice.

Fresh seafood in the case.

Italian seafood, sashimi style.

Scampi, again sashimi style. My goodness, everything was wonderful!

Our hotel in Venice--Plaza Hotel, still on the Mestre side. Quite spacious and comfortable. Our room came with two bathrooms. This hotel is just across the train station in Mestre on the mainland and just one stop from Stazione Santa Lucia. Which is much cheaper than hotels on the island. Breakfast that was included was good also.
