Le Bistro and Sunday Worship

NCL Jewel 21-Day Transpacific Cruise Tokyo to Seattle
May 12, 2018 (Saturday) -- At Sea

After the three port days, it was nice to have two sea days to recuperate from all the walking and rushing around. As we sailed out of Otaru, the weather turned very foggy. We could hear our ship honking through out the night as it sailed north.

I took this picture after breakfast.

It cleared up in the morning.

MOR decided to sleep in so I went up to O'Sheehan's to have breakfast with DC and MC. I had the egg white omelette, which became my favorite item for breakfast whether it was in O'Sheehan's or at the Garden buffet with a couple of pork sausages.

I went to the Tai Chi class at Fyzz but after waiting over 20 minutes with no instructor showing up, we were wondering what was going on. It turned out that the girl who was teaching the class did not change her clock last night. Hmmm... kind of a strange excuse for a crew member.

They had the Aussie lunch at the buffet today so we wanted to see what they were serving. Not bad, they had the curry pies and the sausage rolls which were very good. Of course they also have the other items available on top of those. It was an enjoyable lunch for sure.

My plate. See the piece of chicken there? In a few days, they would no longer serve pieces of chicken like that in the buffet. Only small cut up chicken pieces in some kind of stew or sauce would be available.

We decided to give more time for the room steward to clean our room since we did not leave early enough this morning. After lunch, we went up to Spinnaker for a bit of quiet time.

Le Bistro
We have made reservation for our 2nd Specialty dinner at Le Bistro this evening. I was really surprised that it was so easy to book our tables with a big group like ours. Again, they wanted us to be there early, at 5:00. We were separated into two tables just next to each other and it worked out fine.

With the UDP, we were told that we could order one appetizer, one soup or salad, one main, and one dessert. Several of us went for two appetizers with no soup or salad because the appetizers were more interesting, and it was OK.

We loved these baggettes.

Escargot!

Scallop

Four cones

Breast of Duck

Filet of Beef

I had the Shrimp roasted in cream sauce. Excellent!

I couldn't believe I ordered this, the Neopoleon.

A good dinner!

NCL Jewel 21-Day Transpacific Cruise Tokyo to Seattle
May 13, 2018 (Sunday) -- At Sea

We had to get up early today for the Sunday Service that we have arranged for 9:00. Whenever we travel in a big group, especially cruising, we like to be able to worship together. With two ordained ministers in our family, all we needed was to arrange a meeting room with the cruise ship. For this first Sunday, we had a little problem scheduling with guest services. We have always had good cooperative staff assisting us on other ships but for some reasons the female staff at guest services on the Jewel was trying to make it difficult for us. After my brother contacted Steve, the hotel director, everything worked out fine.

It was very quiet everywhere that morning. People were sleeping in.

We found our meeting room on deck 6, right outside of the Stardust Theater, port side.

We were not able to have the worship service on the first Sunday when we boarded the ship in Yokohama. Now that we have been on the ship for a week, we were happy that 29 people showed up for this very special service. Other than the 13 of us, we invited Chinese Christians whom we've met during the week and they in turn told their friends about the meeting. A pretty good turn-out.

SC leading the service.

Cell phones are so handy! We were able to airdrop some hymns to each of our phones as CiC lead us in singing. Modern technology!

Brother Dennis from Seattle read the scripture.

MOR preached the sermon.

It was good to be worshiping with brothers and sisters in Christ from different denominations including Evangelical Free Church, Baptist Church, Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Evangelical Formosan Church and Chinese Grace Church. All in the family of God.

Our new friends.

After the service, we noticed the beautiful snow-covered mountains on the nearby islands.

Absolutely beautiful!

Checking out the lunch menu posted outside Azura then decided we would have lunch at the buffet again.

  1. Hi, ROM:
Just catching up - what a great couple of posts. Really enjoyed seeing Otaru again. We docked about a 5-10 minute walk to canal and Sakaimachidori, which I adored. All those old buildings, the beautiful glass. I bought gorgeous chopstick rests and few other small glass pieces (then fabric and chopsticks in Okinawa to complete the Japanese look).

Having never cruised NCL I appreciate the photos of all the different venues on the ship and the menus (a lot of choice).

Looking forward to your coming sea days posts!

    1. I don't think I can get tired of the ports in Japan. Always ran out of time. Well, just have to wait for our 'next' time. Sounds like you did very good shopping in ports. Good for you!

  2. I look forward to your posts each day. Do you know if they had mah jong sets on board. We did a 57 day cruise on NCL Star last year and they had several sets which we used when one of the restaurants was set aside for card and mah jong players in the mornings of sea days.

    1. Hi Sue, I am not sure about the mah jong sets. Did not think of checking them out. Sorry! Food poisoning in the last few days have been slowing me down on posting. Again, thanks for reading!

    1. Got some antibiotics from my doctor and had a blood test at the lab. Feeling much better the last two days. My doctor was surprised at the urgent care center that did not do a thing in checking thoroughly and prescribing the needed medication. Thank you for asking. Hopefully I am on my way to fully recovered.
