National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall and More of Our Favorite Taipei Eats

2019 Summer Trip to Asia
August 26~27, 2019 -- Taipei

We only have a couple of days left in Taipei on this trip before leaving for China. There are a couple of restaurants that we wanted to get to before the end of our stay here. One of these restaurants is an All-you-can-eat sukiyaki restaurant near Taipei train station that son and I found a couple of years ago. We were so happy with it that we made it a point to come back every time we are here in the city. That was what we have planned for this day.

We had plenty of time so we decided to take the city bus to downtown from Hsindian when we left the house late morning. We just had to make it to the restaurant before 11:30, the opening hour there to beat the lunch crowds since we did not make reservations.

Taipei train station

Just a couple of blocks away we found the restaurant.
We were the first customers there that day.

All-you-can-eat, veggies, meats, and all. There is a time limit of 90 minutes though.

Prime and choice beef, lamb, and pork.

We were getting this free drink as the first customers that day.
They also have the self-service drink bar with hot and cold drinks.

Branches in other parts of Taiwan.

Lime slices at the end of meal. Refreshing!

Dessert of green tea ice cream.

About $15 USD per person, not a bad deal.

For dinner, we like to stop at the Phoenix City Cantonese BBQ restaurant near the Dapinglin MRT station before going home.

Either eating in or take-out.

Good quality roast duck, soy chicken, and roast pork for excellent price.

Soup included.

We would take the bus home at the stop across the street.

I am very impressed with these signs at the bus stops, telling exactly when the bus will be coming.

August 27, 2019
For breakfast this morning, we got up early and arrived at the Fu Hang Soy Milk in Taipei before the line got super long. This is our favorite place for soy milk and fried dough and the #1 breakfast choice for many in Taipei. Do not come on weekends because of the crazy long lines. Also, they are close on Mondays.

The line was not bad this morning, as it was winding up the stairways.

Passing the open kitchen where one can see the workers busy making all the goodies,

Making Shiao Bing in the old-fashion stoves.

Orders taken at the counter.

Decide on what you want before getting there. The process is very quick and timely. Order, then take what you ordered and go.

Yummy breakfast! A bowl of savory soy milk...

...and a set of shaio-bing and yuo-tiao.

A crowded and popular place.

National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall
Having been in Taiwan numerous times but I don't remember coming here at all up until now. Obviously, this memorial Hall was built in honor of the founding father of the Republic of China, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen. It is now being used as a cultural and educational venue for the citizens of Taipei.
It was with great respect that we paid a visit here on this hot summer day.

Memorial Hall

Across the street from the memorial hall is the huge sport complex that is still under construction.

Statues of Dr. Sun in the park.

They also have changing of the guard ceremony inside the hall which was quite impressive.

Baptismal documentation of Dr. Sun.

Taipei 101 nearby.

Main Entrance of the Memorial Hall.

For dinner, we went to the Hangzhou Xiao Lung Bao again for some more soup dumplings.

Another great meal!
