After spending a few days with our loved ones in Seattle, it was time to come home. The weather was not the greatest, rained on and off. It made it even worse leaving Christian in Seattle. Without him in the back seat it felt kind of strange. We started early and headed south. First stop, the Pacific Pie Company in Portland to pick up some pies. We bought a couple of hot savory pies (classic beef and beef with stout) for lunch and a few frozen pies and pasties to take home. I was trying to take a picture of the city before entering the freeway and got this strange shot.
Then as we entered the freeway, I looked up and saw the cable car right above us. We thought about taking a ride on the cable car but didn't have time to. Nice way to say 'good-bye' to Portland.
Seemed like a long way home. By the way, while driving on Interstate 5 we saw a deer standing right on the shoulder of the freeway. I hope that deer survived that busy traffic.
We decided to stop for dinner at the Black Bear Diner in Medford, Oregon. We passed through here on our way up a week ago and Christian suggested that we should eat here on our way back.
A nice, family style restaurant. We got there a little early so most of the customers seemed to be senior citizens. Well, I guess we have one senior citizen with us too.
We were in luck, special for the day was the Prime Rib Dinner for $13.99 and that was what we had.
A wonderful meal indeed!
Mt Shasta in sight.
Seagulls? In a line on the roof of the restroom at the rest stop.
After spending the night in Redding, we continue our drive back to L.A. with a short stop in Sacramento for some sushi at Raku again. This time instead of taking the Interstate 5, which we knew there would be traffic at Buttonwillow, we opted for the 99 passing through towns like Fresno and Bakersfield. We made it home around 7pm.
