We were busy with commitments this Memorial Day weekend. MOR had to preach at two different churches Sunday morning and then had to attend a church dedication service in Camarillo in the afternoon. We decided that we would spend Sunday night in Calabasas and then visit Oxnard Monday morning. We have passed through Oxnard many times but have never stopped here for anything. Our plan was just to have a relaxing day near the ocean and enjoy a day out.
We stayed at the Country Inn and Suites in Calabasas for the night. The reason that we stayed there was to trigger the Free Night Giveaway for Club Carlson. For a night stay here that cost around $100, we can get 44,000 points, good enough for a night in Rome or Paris.

We enjoyed a great Mexican dinner at La Paz, one of the oldest restaurants in Calabasas and a local favorite. They have a huge menu that covers many choices. The decor was interesting also, with old tricycles, bikes, even wheelchairs hanging from the ceiling.

The portions were so big that all three of us had to pack the left-overs home.
After breakfast the next morning, we went for a walk down the street of the hotel. Everything was closed due to the holiday. It would have been interesting to visit the Adobe museum. Sagebrush, the Mexican restaurant right next to the museum seemed interesting too.
Very quiet.
Later in the morning we drove to Oxnard and walked around the Channel Island Harbor.
It was pretty quiet and relaxing.

We accidentally came upon the Oxnard Fisherman's Wharf and found this busy place called H.C. Seafood Co. on Channel Island Blvd. This seafood market is owned by Chinese. They had live crabs and lobsters cook on the spot and they also sell other fried seafood for those who are not into live seafood. Here is a small bowl of clam chowder. I think the guy picked some better crabs for me because I spoke Cantonese to him. Instead of just picking any one right in front like everybody else, he went to the other side of the tank to get ours.
