Saturday morning we took the coach from Hotel Captain Cook to Whittier. Our bus driver was very knowledgeable and she gave a lot of information along the two hour route. She is a school bus driver during the year but drives the tour bus in the summer. Again, the scenery was amazing!
We stopped at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center where we got to see some wildlife up close.
We had to go through this tunnel to the other side of the mountain to reach the port of Whittier. This is a one way tunnel so all the cars and buses had to wait for their turns to go through.
Inside the tunnel.
We finally boarded the Diamond Princess. A beautiful ship indeed. We boarded early so the ship looked pretty empty. The ship was to leave the port at 8:30pm. After having lunch at the buffet we had a tour of the ship on our own. Some passengers who were with us on the bus even had time to go on excursions in the afternoon.
The town and port of Whittier.
The stretch of road from the tunnel to the port. Right next to the highway is the train track.
A beautiful ship! This is the atrium.
The train brought more passengers to the cruise ship. The last batch of passengers that came on the train arrived after 6:00pm while we were having dinner.
Cold soup.
Their signature dish pasta in a cheese bowl, yummy! We had it several times during the week.
A huge piece of prime rib!
Drill before we leave port. By now, it was late and we looked around as we sat there. Many passengers were having a hard time staying awake. They probably spent the day travelling in from other parts of the world. It was quite funny watching them dozing off. Good thing we didn't have to do it out on deck. All the stations were inside and everyone had a place to sit. Now we can relax on the cruise.
