Radisson and Les Sisters in Chatsworth

To fulfill the required stay for the Radisson Big Night Giveaway, we decided to spend the night at the Chatsworth Radisson Friday night. It was about an hour drive but since we don't come to this area often it was still interesting driving here. This hotel is situated in a commercial area with strip malls, offices, and industrial parks nearby. There was really nothing much as far as attractions other than the Reagan Library further down the 118 freeway. The hotel was very quiet, probably because it was a Friday afternoon. We booked the cheapest AAA rate room but they asked if we wanted to upgrade to the bed and breakfast rate for $15 more and get a $20 coupon for breakfast. Sounded fine so we went for it. Our room was on the second floor and facing the courtyard. The room itself was very quiet and the only noise we could hear was the buzzing of the air-conditioning, which could be bothersome. Room was clean but looked a little outdated. It has a select number-bed which was OK.

For dinner, we decided to go to a southern soul food place nearby called Les Sisters. It has very good reviews on the internet and I was in the mood for some good southern treats. It was just near the corner of Topanga Canyon and Devonshire, admist a bunch of car repair places, tattoo stores, etc. We sat at a table for two by the window and enjoyed a delicious dinner.

The restaurant was decorated with things related to New Orleans. There is no air conditioning but fans. We were there early, around 5:30 so the place was not crowded but it was starting to pack up by the time we left. This is just a small store size place.

I had their famous southern fried chicken, very tasty! The dinner came with two side dishes of your choice and a corn muffin. We both agreed that their cream slaw was the best. I also had the collard greens which was OK, but better with the hot pepper vinegar that the waitress brought.

MOR had the catfish and hush puppies, also excellent! His sides were candied yams and red beans and rice.  The portions were huge and we shared. We also wanted to try their gumbo which came with a cup of gumbo and a cup of rice and a piece of garlic toast. The gumbo was a little disappointing, it had 3 shrimps in there but they used imitation crab meat. The taste was good but not as I remember the gumbo that I had when we were in New Orleans 30 years ago. I can never forget the gumbo feast that we had after a church service on our tour with APU International Ensemble. We were invited to the home of a church member and their home made gumbo was out of this world! I have to say though we enjoyed an excellent dinner here at Les Sisters.

Well, the breakfast buffet at the hotel was alright. I really liked their bacon, crispy and dried. The scrambled eggs was good too, but everything was not hot enough. All in all we had a good stay here at the Radisson.
