Lincoln City-Depoe Bay-Newport-Yachats-Crescent City

August 22, 2013

This would be our last day on the Oregon Coast and we had a lot planned. We wanted to be close to the beach and that was why we booked the Sea Gull Motel in Lincoln City for the night. When we got here the night before, it was past nine o'clock and almost closing time for the motel office. We quickly checked in and settled in our room on the second floor. I believe every single room here at this motel is an ocean-view room. Again, the room was very basic. I did not take pictures on the inside and now don't remember exactly how it looked. I just remembered that it was VERY dark when we tried to get to our room because the place was not very well-lit.

Sea Gull Motel--Lincoln City, Oregon
This motel is at the end of a small road west of 101, right next to the beach. It is a family run establishment and the owners are all very friendly. The lady made sure that we took some hot coffee and cookies with us before we leave in the morning. Having easy access to the beach made this place special.

The Beach Dog Cafe, Lincoln City
Christian found this place for our brunch. We had to wait for like 40 minutes to get a table because they only have about seven tables in this restaurant. The food was amazing and the service was great. Again, this is a family run business. The young man greets the guests and takes the orders with a smile. The owners must be dog lovers. They have pictures of dogs all around the walls, quite interesting.

I am not a biscuit and gravy person but took a little taste of this and it was good.

Depoe Bay
After the huge brunch, we continued our drive down south. Depoe Bay is not far from Lincoln City and it claims to have the world's smallest harbor.

Chartered fishing boats and whalewatching boats were busy getting in and out of the harbor.

Whale Center
It's said that there are 60 grey whales reside off the Central Oregon Coast and this is one of the best places to see them.

There is a stairway next to the whale center that takes people under the bridge to the other side of the harbor.

Newport
Many years ago we stopped here for a visit at the Aquarium only and did not check out the town itself. We missed the chance of stopping here when we drove up north and wanted to make sure that we stop here whenver we come back. Our goal was to try the crab soup at the Local Ocean Seafoods. It's supposedly the #1 dining place in Newport. It was not an easy task finding this place and even our GPS was confused. It kept telling us to go somewhere else. Then we decided to go with our gut feelings and tried going down a street that looked like a possibility. Fortunately, we found the Historic Bayfront and a parking spot at their public parking.

The Bayfront area that's lined with galleries, restaurants, stores and fishing processing plants.

even family attractions

We almost gave up looking for the Local Ocean Seafoods, which is at the other end of the Bayfront. It was quite crowded and there was a line so we just ordered a couple of cups of crab soup to go. Maybe because they were so busy, the staff there wasn't that friendly. So glad that we didn't eat inside.

the famous crab soup with chunks of crab meat--not bad, but kind of expensive

Enjoying the soup with a view of the bay across the street.

I don't think we need to come back. Next time we will try Mo's.

Beautiful view of the bay.

Yaquina Bay Bridge

sea lions/seals at the pier--awww!

These two were having some problems. For some reason, the one up on deck kept pushing the other one back into the water the whole time we were there no matter where he tried to get on.

Here we go again! Plop!

Crescent City, California
We made it back to Crescent City before 8:30pm, the closing time for Chart Room. We went right over to the Chart Room and called the motel from there telling them that we will be late checking in. The motel owner was really nice about it. This time there was no waiting time at Chart Room because it was late and we were seated at the same table as last week. While we were waiting for our food we just had to go back out and take pictures of the beautiful sunset before enjoying our dinners.

Front Street Inn, Crescent City
When we decided that we would be traveling on the 101 back to California, we called the motel and booked directly with the owner. They were very nice and reserved the family suite for us which only cost us $5 more than the last room we had here.

This family suite was more than spacious enough for the three of us.
