Day 12 --Lesser Three Gorges- November 21, 2015
At around 7:15, Gold 8 sailed through Qutang Gorge for some amazing scenic cruising. Throughout the morning we were greeted by gorgeous sights everywhere we turned.
At around 9:00 we arrived at Wushan, where we would take our second excursion on this cruise to the Lesser Three Gorges. According to the daily program, this would be a three-hour boat tour without walking.
This was our third time here at Wushan and the city looked different each time.
It almost looked like Hong Kong from the Distance.
Everyone met in the dining room to get our boarding passes before going on our excursion.
It was a short and easy 3-minute walk from Gold 8 to board the other smaller boat for the Lesser Three Gorges cruise.
Local guide for this scenic cruising. He was a medical doctor-turn tour guide.
Sailing under the Longmen Bridge.
Entering the first gorge--Longmen Gorge.
Small villages dotted along the Daning River.
Second gorge--Ba Wu Gorge
Di Cui Gorge--the last of the three gorges.
An old temple up on the hill.
A newly built walkway along the cliffs.
This was the farthest we went before we turned around and back to Wushan.
As the boat was turning I noticed this in the water but not sure what it was. Just wondering if it was the top of a building that is now submerged in water?
We saw some monkeys around this area but did not get a picture of them.
As we were busy looking out for the monkeys on the right on our way back, I almost missed the 'hanging coffin' on the left again. Just pointing my camera towards the area with the zoom lens and luckily got this shot. Definitely not clear but I was happy. It's at the top right hand corner of this picture, inside the cave.
Our little cruise boat, Lesser Three Gorges #6.
Back to the dock of Wushan.
Too bad we did not have a chance to go into the city.
We did not even have to cross that bridge.
I was skeptical about Sinorama's claim of the Gold 8, but their signage was on the boat.
Sailing through the Wu Gorge in the afternoon.
Goddess Peak, the tiny rock behind the two big ones.
There was a Guest Talent Show that evening on deck 5, but again we opted for a quiet night in our cabin.
Later that evening we came upon the first double-way, five-step ship locks near Tanziling in Siling Gorge.
Another river cruise getting out from the locks in the opposite direction.
Waiting for our turn to get in.
It was kind of cold outside, so we waited inside the ship library.
This must be the biggest library that I have seen on any cruise ships.
It was usually pretty empty.
cozy and nice
Going into the locks
Looking across the other side of the locks.
Notice the lowering of the water level
The front gate opened for exiting.
The Gold 8 continued to pass through a couple more locks that evening, but we were tired so we went back to our cabin and retired. This was a picture of the second step from our balcony. Tomorrow morning we will be touring the Three Gorges Dam Project itself.
