Copenhagen, Denmark

cont. Carnival Splendor 2008 -- Baltic

7/14/2008
Sea Day--We experienced some rocking and rolling the night before but not terribly bad. One thing we noticed was this loud banging noise that was bothering us. Didn't know what it was. We went to the travel talk and then to lunch at the Lido.
The CruiseCritic people had a Meet and Greet today, and a huge group of people showed up.

Dave went on all 3 segments of this inaugural journey.

I went to Pinnacle Steakhouse in the afternoon and made reservation for Wednesday.

Dinner

After dinner we walked around deck 9, under the retractable dome, so we had our exercise for the day. The show tonight was great, it was called "The Beat". A nice ending to a beautiful day.

7/15/2008
We had to turn the clock an hour forward last night, so we didn't have enough sleep. The Lido was very crowded this morning because everybody else wanted to get off the ship early.

We were greeted by some beautiful music when we left the ship.

Before we started toward town, we went to check out the terminal area to see if there was internet. We didn't find any, but we did not ask any one either.
It was an easy walk to town, actually a very nice walk. We went past the Little Mermaid and of course took pictures.

We went past St. Alban Church...

the Gefon Fountain...

to Amalienborg.

Time for changing of the guard.

Then we continued on our walk to Nyhavn where the canal and the famous colorful row houses are located.

We purchased our HOHO boat tickets and went on the non-stop red line boat tour for a general view of the city. It was a pleasant boat ride with guide pointing out all the important features of this city.

Very expensive apartment

The boat took us back to the Little Mermaid where we saw a lot more tourists gathering there by now.

Christian had to duck when the boat went under the bridges.

After the boat ride, we walked down to the Stroget.

The Stroget is a pedestrian street.

We found the famous hot dog stand at the City Hall Square and tried three different kinds of hot dogs.

Across from the City Hall Square is the Tivoli Garden, which we did not have time to visit.

A picture with Hans Christian Andersen who was looking towards the Tivoli Garden.

City Hall

Then we walked back to Nyhavn and got a boat ride back to the Little Mermaid area. There were many people trying to get on the HOHO bus at this time.

Then we walked back to the ship.

Before we board, we had ice cream at the pier near the bear statue and used up our Krone.

at the port

We did not go to the show tonight. Instead we did some laundry on the ship. We also went to the purser's desk to complain about the loud banging noise that was constantly bothering us.

A little tip about Copenhagen--try to get off the ship as early as possible and be on the boat tour early in the morning. It was very crowded in the afternoon and it was quite chaotic.
