Sydney Fish Market

Seafood Craving--Sydney Fish Market, March 18, 2014

After a simple breakfast of croissants and coffee in our room, we were ready for another day of exploration. It was an easy walk from Radisson Blu to the bus stop on George Street, just about two blocks away. The free shuttle bus 555 that runs along George Street was what we were looking for.

After a few blocks, we got off at the Chinatown stop near Campbell.

And walked a short block to the Light Rail George Street (Capitol Square) Station at Hay Street and George Street.

Then I noticed that the famous Harry's Cafe de Wheels was just across the street! We will have to come back and get some meat pies later on.

We had to pay for zone 2 on the light rail to get to Sydney Fish Market.

Just walk up the stairs, follow the signs to Sydney Fish Market.

We were a bit early so the place was still pretty quiet.

Some retailers were already opened for business.

We decided to each have half a lobster...to start. These looked so good, but next time I will probably pick Doyles'. These have too much 'stuff'--creme, mayonnaise...whatever it was covering the lobster.

Now, the grilled fish (Barramundi) was spectacular!

These are Doyle's lobsters, they do look nicer. But they weren't READY when we wanted to eat!

We did get some scallops from Doyle's later on and they were delicious!

That was our first stop. The place was getting packed soon and by lunch time it felt like all the tourists from the world were there!

Then we went to get some sashimi type seafood.

Scampi, these were heavenly, sweet and delicious!

Sashimi--nothing special and not worth it, IMHO.

This time we enjoyed the food in the open area outside.

After finishing all our food, we went back inside to check if we have missed anything.

By now, the place was bustling with tour groups.

That was what we missed! I would have ordered that instead. So, check out all the specials available before you make your decisions.

After getting off the light rail, Christian went to get his pie from Harry's but we were all too full to even think about more food. We then took the free shuttle back to the hotel and rest a little before getting out again in the afternoon. With FIL's condition, we had to plan our days in segments so as not to tired him out too much all at once.

Sydney Fish Market is not to be missed and I would recommend coming here early, explore the place before it gets crowded to really enjoy your experience there.
